AUTOCLAVE An autoclave is a device used in laboratory and medical settings to sterilize equipment and materials. It works by subjecting the items to high-pressure steam at a temperature above the boiling point of water, which kills any microorganisms present. Autoclaves are commonly used in settings such as hospitals, clinics, and research laboratories to sterilize surgical instruments, medical devices, and laboratory equipment. They can also be used to sterilize liquids, such as culture media and nutrient solutions, and even waste materials. WORKING PRINCIPLE OF AN AUTOCLAVE The process of autoclaving typically involves placing the items to be sterilized inside the autoclave chamber, adding water to create steam, and then raising the temperature and pressure to the desired levels for a specified period. Once the sterilization cycle is complete, the autoclave is depressurized and the items can be removed for use. Autoclaves are considered to be highly effective and reliable methods of
